The morning was cold, the sun not yet over the crest of the hill to shine any real light down on the lake. The dusky brown she-cat had left camp early to do some hunting. With any luck I'll actually catch something today. Yesterday she'd had no such luck; she hadn't seen so much as a whisker of prey. Her belly rumbled to remind her of her task, and she continued to slink through the grass. There was grace in her movement, not unlike the stalking of a leopard. Hunting was her forte; her limbs were strong from many a run, her ears were always listening for the slightest sound.
Eventually, she managed to pick up the scent of the animal that was her namesake, a young rabbit just peeking out from its warren. Stealthily she crept forward, pausing as it looked up, sensing danger. It looked in the other direction and she seized the opportunity to dash forward. It dashed in the opposite direction, but long moons of training had done her good. It was over within moments.
The tempting scent of freshkill made her mouth water, but she was a devout follower of the warrior code and would not eat until the clan was fed. Tucking the prey into a cleft in a rock, out of reach of any flying predator, she stopped once more to scent the air. ThunderClan... It was fresh.
Of course, she was near the border; a patrol had probably gone by just recently. On her side of the border, the strong scents of the moorland called to her, singing with the scents of rabbits, heather, and her Clan. She breathed in deeply to bring the scents over her glands, relishing in the feel of the open sky over her head. She could never understand how the other clans dealt with living under the trees; there was no better feeling than that of the wind through fur and clouds overhead.

Flashclaw laid in his nest, staring out of the den. His mind was filled with only one thought. I hate my father. He growled as he thought about the evil being who he once knew as his father. Only one emotion would ever be shown from him. Hatred. Throughout his life, he thought that his family was dying just because of rogues or something, like when his brother, sister and mother were all killed, his brother and sister right after birth, and his mother, right after he and his last sibling left breathing, Bramblepaw, were apprenticed. He learned the truth the moment he was nearly a warrior along with Bramblepaw. His father killed them all. He watched his father, and so did the rest of the clan, as he killed the small apprentice, and fled the camp. Flashclaw had gotten his revenge for his whole family by killing Shadowfern, but in turn, was left with blood, never to leave his pelt, scars that would be there as a reminder of what had happened, and they would be there forever. He stood up, and exited the den, which was still filled with sleeping warriors. Flashclaw sighed and stared ahead of him, eyes now filled with anger once more. A low growl formed in his throat, and he stomped out of the camp, and the last thing seen of him before he left was a lash of his golden tail.
He tasted the air, and scented a rabbit. He watched it break cover and he gave the chase. He pounced in it, and gave it the killing bite. In his anger, he ripped the rabbit to shreds, and he hissed. That stupid father, that stupid clan, every stupid thing in this dumb place, all worthless. He thought angrily. Flashclaw muttered something and continued to walk. He looked around, wondering if any of his stupid clanmates were out hunting or walking or something too. He looked at his unsheathed claws and licked off the blood, then sheathed them and continued to walk.
He curled up on a boulder and growled. Flashclaw stared at the sky, not even caring the boulder was right beside the border. He didn't care at all. If ThunderClan was to captured him and take him to their camp, he didn't care. If a patrol attacked the lone warrior, he wouldn't care. It would just start a battle between the clans, but he didn't care. We might all die, but I don't care. The warrior thought, although, somewhere deep down inside of him, he didn't mean it. He couldn't seem to let go of the past, no matter how horrid and cruel it was. He hated his father, and he hated everything else too.
Then, he scented something, or more precisely, someone. Flashclaw stood up and looked around. He stopped to then see her, a she-cat, of his own clan, but still, no matter what, he hated everyone. The rest of his clan didn't do anything when his father killed his brother. They just stood there, like idiots, which is was Flashclaw always thought. He jumped from the boulder and slowly padded over to her. In all his moons of being the way he was, he had forgotten most cat's names, so he just called her, "That she-cat." He stepped in front of her and took a good look at her. Flashclaw, being the way he was, had never in his life noticed her, and blinked. All he knew is that she was from his clan. Flashclaw didn't say anything and turned away, and began to leave. His mind went back to his father. I'm glad I killed him. If I didn't, who would have?

A scent caught on the wind came to her and she turned her head to see one of her own Clanmates approaching her. She felt the fur on her neck bristle with unease as soon as she recognized him. Flashclaw... She'd never really felt easy around him; he was too...angry. Sure, she supposed he could blame it on the fact that he his family was dead. But hers was, too. I guess we just deal with our grief differently... There was also the fact that his father had been a murderer. She could recall watching him kill Bramblepaw in the center of camp. She'd been a newly made warrior, but had been completely paralyzed from shock to do anything. Her tail twitched uneasily as he came to a stop in front of her. "Um....hey, Flashclaw," she mewed, her voice full of hesitation. But he was already turning to leave. Wait, what? How rude!
Indignation flared up in her chest, and she darted around to stand in his way. "So that's it? You're not even going to say anything? No 'how's the prey running' or 'mind if I join you?'" Of course, Rabbitfoot wasn't really sure that she wanted him to talk to her. It was simply the fact that he'd completely ignored her like that. Like she wasn't worthy of talking to him. That was how she'd seen it, anyways. "What's your problem?" she snapped, glaring at him. Despite her bravery in confronting him, her twitching tail gave away her unease.
She could vaguely remember being denmates in the nursery. He hadn't been so angry then, had he? She couldn't remember. She recalled that his siblings had died then. At least Harespring was with me until we were warriors... She didn't know what she would've done without her sister. But that doesn't give him the right to be like this. He needs to move on already.

Ooc: Do you think I overdid it a bit in my last post? Flashclaw stopped walking and turned his head slowly. He looked at her, anger blazing in his eyes. He turned around fully and slowly stalked back to where she was. "Now, what was that?" He asked angrily. "Because it sounded like you we're mocking me." He narrowed his eyes, but barely managed to keep his claws sheathed. His tail twitched angrily and a low growl formed in his throat. The wind carried dust around the moar as he waited. She doesn't know what it's like for me. My family is dead. Everyone is dead. I have no one left. He thought. I could kill her now, but I think I'll wait for a few moons. The growl from his throat slowly grew louder as he was getting annoyed. "Well?" He asked. "And for another thing, if you ever think that you know anything about me, then you're wrong!"

OOC -- Nope, not at all :3
"I said, 'what's your problem?'" She forced her tone to stay level, but it was clear she was irritated. She stood tall, lashing her tail back and forth. "What, thorns in your moss? Tough piece of fresh-kill?" She snorted and shook her head. "Honestly, you'd think StarClan came down and groveled at your feet." She curled her lip at him. Sure, she'd become distant from her Clanmates when she'd lost her family, but not like he had. "It's time to grow up and be a real warrior," she growled, lashing her tail even more. For StarClan's sake! It was a wonderful day until he showed up. Out of all of WindClan, it had to be him. I would've much preferred to see a ThunderClan cat! And that was really saying something.

Ooc: So sorry that this is a bit short. Ic: The growl continued to grow louder. "Oh, right, so you're so great. You couldn't even catch any prey yesterday." He hissed, anger growing. "You're no better than I." He growled. "You don't know what it's like for me." He muttered. Nobody knows what it's like for me. He sat down, facing away from her. I wish there was someone who did. I lost everything in my life. He muttered something under his breath and sighed, anger diminishing.

Rabbitfoot pinned her ears back. "It was just a bad day, okay?" she snapped. She was proud of her hunting skills, so to have this pointed out... Anger flared up as he turned his back to her. She stalked around so that she was in front of him again. "You think I don't know what it's like to lose all of my kin? My father was dead before I was born. My mother died the day before my apprenticeship. My sister drowned. Even my apprentice was killed." She glared at him. Calm down, Rabbitfoot. His circumstances are different. His father was a traitor. She took a deep breath. "The point is, you're not the only one who's lost someone. You can't keep living like this," she mewed softly. She hesitated, unsure whether or not to try and comfort him more. She felt that if she tried to touch him he'd claw her ears off.

Flashclaw was silent, his anger leaving. He had had enough of it for the day, and just turned away again. He sighed and shook his head slowly. "It was different for me." He mewed. "But I'm sorry." He blinked. I apologized? He slowly stood up, questions filling his head. He began to pad away, but looked back.

She sighed, relaxing. "I'm sorry, too." She didn't try to plant herself in front of him again; if he didn't want to look at her, fine. She sat down, watching him in silence for a few moments. What was it like for him? She remembered the stories she'd heard of some of the great leaders of old. There had been one who'd had to live down his father's murderous name, as well. So it wasn't like he was the first. But she still didn't truly know how he felt. A pang of sadness shot through her for him. She'd never had to live down such a thing. Both of her parents had been honorable warriors. Even her sister's loyalty had never been questioned, despite her secret fling with a ShadowClan warrior. But that wasn't his case.
She opened her muzzle and mewed softly, "Maybe you'd like to go hunting with me? I've already caught a rabbit." She was prepared for him to say no; after the little spat they'd just had, she was pretty sure he'd never talk to her again. Not that he ever has. She banished the thought away; she wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"We're already out here, so why not." Flashclaw replied plainly, and stood up, turning back to her. He stretched and yawned slightly. "Where to?" He asked, as he hadn't really payed much attention to where the best prey was, because he never really cared. His gaze flickered up to the sky for a moment and thought, then brought the gaze back down to her. What's the harm? I should go hunting, and the clan needs prey. He thought.

She blinked in surprise. He said...yes? She hadn't thought he actually would. Her surprise quickly turned into a warm smile. "Where to?" "Oh, yes, right." She paused for a moment to scent the air. "There's a rabbit warren nearby. They'll probably be leaving to look for food soon." And if not, well, they'd just have to look elsewhere. She turned and padded in the direction, beckoning him with a flick of her tail.
She stopped as soon as she saw the warren. Crouching down, she spotted some movement in the dark opening. She crept a pawstep forward, then fell still once more. There was more than one there, and with any luck they could catch both. She watched as the first hopped out, another one just peeking out. Those will make an excellent meal for a couple of our Clanmates... Now just to catch them. Rabbitfoot took another step forward, narrowing her eyes and preparing to leap as soon as they were both clear of the warren.

Flashclaw slowly was making his way around to the other side of the warren in case the rabbits tried to skip out on being a meal. His eyes peered out of the bushes beside it and looked at Rabbitfoot, a look in them as if saying, "Ready." He moved closed to it and lowered his head so the wouldn't see him there. He laid in wait of the sound that Rabbitfoot had run in to attack. She's right. I need to forget about the past, but I can't seem to be able to. I try my best, but I don't think I try enough. Flashclaw thought as he waited. As he waited, a thought about Rabbitfoot entered his mind. I said yes to hunting with her. I don't know why I did. I just felt like it would be n-nice... He blinked in confusion. Ooc: Question, does this make you go uh...?

OOC-- -foot, not -leap
She shifted her gaze to the tom and blinked to let him know she saw him. Switching her gaze back, she saw that the other rabbit had come all the way out. Kneading the ground for a heartbeat longer, she pinpointed the spot she'd leap to - right in between them, scaring one straight into Flashclaw's waiting paws and the other away from the warren. She pushed forward and off the ground, landing exactly where she'd planned.
The rabbits scattered. Rabbitfoot turned to race after one, depending on Flashclaw to catch the other. Hard on the rabbit's paws, she could smell its fear scent coming from the creature less than a tail length away. With a last burst of energy, she lunged forward with both paws outstretched to snag the rabbit with sharp claws. Great StarClan, this one's a fighter! It tried to wriggle away, kicking out. She hissed in frustration as its claws scored her shoulder. But it had no chance. Claws still holding it in place, she dispatched it with a sharp bite. Standing up, she grunted as she looked down at her dusty pelt. Her shoulder stung, but the scratch wasn't deep. Picking up her catch, she turned to go back to the warren to see if Flashclaw had caught the other.

Ooc: I'm so sorry. I have a __leap in another thread, and I end up mixing names up all the time. It's annoying. Ic: Flashclaw stood there, a dead rabbit beneath his paw, and a smile on his face. He stretched and looked around. He then looked back at Rabbitfoot. "I see you caught that one with ease." He mewed thoughtfully, which was strange for him. He yawned slightly and looked at his paws. "I didn't mean what I said earlier. I know if you don't want to forgive me, then it's okay. It wasn't your fault you didn't catch anything yesterday. I had no luck either. You're a really good cat, Rabbitfoot. Don't listen to me." He mewed quietly. Flashclaw picked up the rabbit slowly and looked around, the smile still on his face, even though he had the rabbit in his mouth. W-Why am I being so nice to her? He questioned himself in his mind. Do I... Like her? The rabbit slipped from his grasp, and it hit the ground, but he made no movements to pick it up. He just sat there. N-No... I can't... Can I? He thought for a bit. I do... He moved his gaze to Rabbitfoot once more. I... I need to tell her... But she'll think I'm crazy and then... And then my life will be empty again. Ooc: She doesn't have a mate, does she?

OOC -- That's okay, that's happened to me, too :3 That gif does, a bit X) I can't read it D: No, she doesn't have one. She's also a bit oblivious to things like that directed at her.
She purred around her catch, seeing that he had managed to catch the other. She set hers down and gave her shoulder a quick lick. "Hardly. I'll have to go and see the medicine cat when we get to camp. Last thing I want is an infected scratch from prey," she mewed. She was a bit angry with herself for letting it scratch her. It's not a big deal, though. Not even that deep. She looked up at him, blinking. There was no hiding the fact that she was surprised by the sudden change in his demeanor. "I-it's okay," she stammered slightly, "I understand. And of course I forgive you. We're Clanmates - it'd do no good for WindClan to have quarrels within itself." Always the one to think of the warrior code. She purred and flicked his shoulder with her tail. "You're not so bad yourself." She felt awkward showing any sort of affection for others. She was used to simply treating others as acquaintances and nothing more.
She started slightly as he dropped the rabbit again. She glanced away, avoiding his gaze for a moment. "Uh, I guess we can take these to camp. I've got to come back and get the other one I caught before something finds it." She flicked her tail uneasily. Why's he looking at me like that? Picking up her rabbit, she turned to head towards camp, just glancing back to see if he was following.
