A paw cut through the air and sent the green ball of moss plying through the air. Venompaw sighed as it missed her target. She had been playing this game for a while instead of doing what she was asked, or told, to do. She was supposed to go get new wads of moss for nests and the medicine cat. But left alone with only imagination and boredom to keep her company, she made up a game. It was really just batting a ball of moss at a pine cone, trying to knock it off of a rock. She raised her paw and swung, hard. It went far and she retrieved it with an irritated sigh. It went on like this for a while longer. Hit, miss, retrieve. Hit, miss, retrieve. Hit, miss, retrieve. Until she hit the pine cone, then the mossball bounced harmlessly off. She growled and pounced on the mossball, ripping it to shreds and throwing moss everywhere and on everything, including herself. She lay there, a moss covered apprentice, the clan probably wondering where she was. But she didn't move or even think of her clan. She was just a young cat frustrated with herself.

Hawkfeather watched the she-cat for a long time before padding out of her hiding place. ShadowClan's deputy watched the she-cat with slight hint of amusement in her blue eyes. Instead she padded forward picking up her own small mossball."Like this she mewed." She placed the mossball on the ground. She crouched in front of it for just a second eyeing another small pine cone as if it were a piece of pray.
Standing up she lifted her paw and gracefully swung it forward. The mossball went flying and hit it's target. The pine cone fell, and the mossball fell next to it."When I was an apprentice, I used to hate collecting moss too. Especially by myself. So I turned it into a game and would be out here for hours." The deputy mewed.
The young black she-cat looked at Venompaw with blue eyes. She saw something in this apprentice. Something special."Would you like me to help you collect moss venompaw. We can get it done quickly and you can have the day off from training tomorrow to relax. Deputies orders." She mewed while wrapping her thin tail around her paws/

Venompaw looked up, pieces of moss sliding off her head. A twinge of jealousy mixed with amazement as the deputy knocked the pine cone off it's target. How did she do that? Her emotions shined through her eyes, but luckily, it was mostly amazement. Venompaw couldn't help but wonder how this cat could have been so much like herself. "Really?!" She shouted, jumping up. "Thank you so much Hawkfeather!" She shouted, jumping up and down. She dashed towards the patch of moss, trying not to tear the carefully rounded mossballs up.

Hawkfeather nodded. Before speaking though she wanted to finish the job. She padded forward carefully tearing the moss off the tree roots, being careful not to tear so as she did. She shook them dry and started a pile. She did this a couple more times. Before she knew it, Venompaw and herself had created a large pile of moss.
"Goes by quick with some help." she mewed. She knew that some of the moss was still damp and would have to dry in the ending suns of green-leaf as it soon turned to leaf-fall."The moss need to dry a little more Venompaw, if you would like to play. There's still plenty of time before anyone will be looking for you." She mewed. Even though the deputy wasn't too much older than Venompaw, she still saw a part of her in the young apprentice.

"No, I'm okay." Venompaw said, shaking her head. She was with the deputy and wanted to act as much like a warrior as possible. Which meant patience. Patience is something learned, and Venompaw needed to learn it, even though her paws itched to run and jump. Within half a minute, she had convinced herself that she wasn't good enough to be a warrior. Her face scrunched up, in frustration. "I'll still become a warrior even though I was born a rogue, right?" She asked the deputy, worry clouding her eyes.

Hawkfeather whipped her head around when the next set of words came from the apprentice. Would she still become a warrior even though she was born a rogue. Why was she so worried? Hawkfeather looked at her with soft green eyes. She had to pick her words carefully. ShadowClan normally didn't take in outsiders. She though for just a moment before speaking.
"Yes." She mewed."Why would you not? You are a Clan born at heart, sadly you may be questioned by others over and over...it's a shame really, but I deal with the same thing, because i'm a deputy fresh into warrior hood. It's hard Venompaw but we have each other do we not?" she mewed looking at the sky.
Being a young deputy was hard, but she couldn't imagine the turmoil that this young apprentice was going through."Do not question yourself Venompaw. The more you believe in yourself, the more others will believe in you."

"Thanks Hawkfeather." She said, a loud purr in her throat. Her heart swelled in her chest. She was glad she had asked Hawkfeather and not anybody else about what was on her mind. She couldn't explain why it meant so much to her to hear words of encouragement. Venompaw blinked, her eyes wide like a kits. A few peices of moss still clung to her fur. She looked incredabley innocent, though the slight mischief in her face couldn't be ignored. "Is it alright if I play now?"

The black she-cat let out a mroow of laughter as the apprentice asked if she could play. Why would she not be able to play. Hawkfeather scuffed the apprentices ear playfully before parting her jaws to speak. Why would she not be able to play."Yes you can play now Venompaw...on one condition."
Hawkfeather narrowed her eyes to make herself more serious looking. She let her lasts words linger in the air for a very long time, it would make any other cat nervous. When Hawkfeather was serious, it was serious. No questions asked."Only if i can play with you!" she spoke quickly before batting a mossball towards Viperpaw, sending it flying at the apprentice.

Venompaw gave a cheerful smile, but it faltered at the one condition part. "Only if I can play with you!" Venompaw laughed and jumped up, batting the mossball back in her direction. She would have never thought she would be out of camp, playing with the deputy of her clan. If anything, spending this time, even this relaxed, carefree time, with Hawkfeather gave her more respect for the deputy.
