Rabbitfoot lounged just outside of the warriors den, basking in the sun's warmth. She'd returned from a hunting patrol not too long ago - bringing in a sparrow and a mouse - and had yet to be sent out for anything else. But I don't mind. It's nice to just lay here and relax for a little while. She rolled onto her back.
I miss Harespring, she thought suddenly. Her sister had been the only one she felt she could really talk to about anything. But after her death.... I have Flashclaw. But no, that wouldn't do. She wanted a she-cat to talk to. One who would understand how she felt and would listen to her. Someone she could talk to and be talked to. She wanted that same closeness of a best friend. I really miss Harespring.
The brown she-cat rolled over and opened her eyes. Setting her head on her paws, she stared around camp sullenly. Could I find a friend like that again? There were a few other she-cats in the Clan that were about her age. But she wasn't really sure how to go about making friends. Flashclaw was just a fluke.. She smiled slightly at the thought. What a day that'd been! But back to her current dilemma. Would they even want to be friends with me?

A long-furred she-cat scuttled along beside a much bigger tom, ears flattened to her head. She was a rather pretty cat, her pelt a mix of swirled slate gray and a light silver, body petite, eyes gold, but she slunk along like a scolded apprentice. Her head would whip around every now and then as if searching for a ghost that only she could see. She glanced up at the tom-cat-his pelt a soft brown tabby, eyes a bright, bright green, confidence in the set of his broad shoulders-and muttered something.
"What was that?" Brackenleaf mewed, stopping to turn to his sister with curious eyes, head cocking lightly to the side. He was used to her slinking, defeated posture, and all attempts to cure her of her crippling shyness ended in failure. He hadn't given up yet, but he wasn't about to broach the subject, not today. He got no answer, for the she-cat was busy leafing through the fresh-kill pile. He padded over, feeling the exhaustion sink in from his long day. He had been on the dawn patrol, and first thing when he got back, Silvercloud had asked him to go hunting with her. Now, he was looking forward to a long nap. "Well, I'm going to take a nap. You'll be fine here, won't you?" he asked, jaws parting into an enormous yawn. Upon receiving a cautious nod, he trotted into the den, leaving the nervous she-cat glancing around with wide eyes.

Rabbitfoot heard the sound of approaching pawsteps and shifted her gaze to the two cats. I wonder why she's always so nervous? she thought absentmindedly. "I'm going to take a nap. You'll be fine here, won't you?" Brackenleaf padded away, leaving the skittish she-cat alone. Rabbitfoot lifted her head curiously. Maybe StarClan's heard me. I was thinking about finding a friend, and now here's a cat. But she seems so.... Shrugging the thought away, she called to the she-cat. "Silvercloud!" She couldn't help but wonder if this was a good idea. But we're Clanmates. She doesn't have to be nervous around me. "Come on over!" She waved her tail.

Silvercloud nearly jumped out of her pelt at the sound of her name being called by a fairly unfamiliar cat. Her head whipped around to face the other she-cat, yellow eyes wide and doe-like. She stood like that for a heart-beat longer than normal before slowly slinking towards her clanmate, fluffy tail twitching anxiously. What does she want? Did I do something wrong? Or... Is she just being nice...? She couldn't believe it to be possible. It was hard and lonely having only one cat, a tom, her brother, for company, but she never tried to make friends and everyone always overlooked her. "Y-yes Rabbitfoot...?" she whispered skittishly, standing like an apprentice about to get scolded.

"Y-yes Rabbitfoot...?" She was ready to give up trying to make friends right then and there. This isn't going to work. But she forced herself to smile brightly at the she-cat. "Did you find anything in the pile?" she mewed, nodding towards the freshkill pile.
